Introducing BuxxIQ: Personal Finance for World Citizens
You earn in USD and GBP, pay rent in EUR, have other expenses in CAD. You transfer money through three countries, and your banks are taking a silent cut on every conversion.
Every budgeting app uses a spot rate that has nothing to do with what you actually paid. And none of them tell you how much you’re losing to FX markups and wire fees.
BuxxIQ solves what every other app ignores: the friction involved in moving money around.
You can see that Bank A costs you 3.5% per transfer while Bank B costs 0.5%. You can track this over time. You can make decisions. Other apps tell you that you spent €500; BuxxIQ tells you what it actually cost you in your home currency.
Transfer Efficiency Analytics
When you transfer funds from Bank A to Bank B, you pay a wire fee. Intermediary and correspondent banks take a cut. If there’s a currency conversion, you probably pay a markup on the spot rate.
BuxxIQ compares the mid-market rate at time of transfer to the rate you actually received and computes a transfer efficiency, aggregating this efficiency for the banks in question. You can see that over the past 6 months, Bank X consistently costs you 3.2% vs. Bank Y at 0.4%. You can track your cumulative loss to FX markups — not as an abstract concern, but as a real number you can act on.
No other personal finance app does this. The question “how much of my money am I losing to bank exchange rate markup and wire fees, in total, over time?” has had no answer until now. You can now make decisions based on hard data for how to structure your financial life — what banks to do business with, which banks to avoid.
Multi-Currency Budgeting
Define categories in the currencies where you actually spend. Rent in EUR. Food in JPY. Transport in GBP. BuxxIQ normalizes all of it to a single settlement currency — a consistent point of reference for tracking your spending over time. Every transaction is automatically converted to your settlement currency. As exchange rates fluctuate, you always know how your total spending compares to your budget.
Record What You Actually Paid
Transactions are entered with a value and currency, an associated category, and an account. The transaction value is converted using the exchange rate for the transaction date — or the rate you provide if you know what your bank applied.
The end result: BuxxIQ knows how much in your settlement currency you just spent, and lets you review all spending in a normalized view. Apples to apples.
Save by Hedging
Most apps use the day’s spot rate when converting transactions. But if you pre-convert funds when the rate is favorable — moving USD to EUR at a known rate — you can lock that rate in BuxxIQ. Track your EUR spending against the hedge rate, not the volatile spot rate. BuxxIQ computes your savings on a per-transaction basis and tells you how much you’ve saved.
This is how you take control of your budget instead of letting exchange rate movements control you.
Reconciliation — Close the Loop and Catch Fraud
When your bank statement closes, compare BuxxIQ’s recorded transactions against the statement. If your bank applied a different rate than you estimated, adjust it. If there’s a foreign transaction fee you didn’t see coming, enter a catch-up transaction.
This accomplishes two things:
-
FX Adjustment. Your budget now reflects what your bank actually charged, not an estimate. Your spending history is accurate.
-
Fraud Detection. You catch unauthorized activity before you lose the dispute window. For a traveler using cards internationally, this is your first defense against fraud.
Is this extra work compared to bank sync? Yes. Is it the correct, industry-standard approach that every serious multi-currency spending tool uses? Also yes. Banks don’t expose the rates until after the fact.
Your Data, Your Device
Financial data is your data. You should control it — not some app provider possibly monetizing it. BuxxIQ keeps your data on your device, encrypted when not in use. You choose where to back it up: a cloud provider or backup service you trust. We can never recover data from a device we never touched — and that’s by design.
BuxxIQ is laser-focused on cash spending and transfers. It is not an investment tracker — there are better apps for that. It is the tool that finally answers the question every expat, digital nomad, and international freelancer has been asking: where is my money actually going?
